Winchester Mansions’ Grapes, Gourmet and Gallery Evenings have grown to be an institution where art lovers with a passion for wining and dining can enjoy the finest South African wines paired with an exquisite gourmet feast.

Taking place Wednesday, 16 June, the Grapes, Gourmet and Gallery Evening will feature signature wines from the Morgenhof Estate. Situated on the slopes of Simonsberg Mountains outside Stellenbosch, the estate is renowned for production of the highest quality grapes creating top quality wines. Owned by Anne Cointreau, Morgenhof Estate dates back to 1692 and consists of 212 hectares of land, producing approximately 35,000 cases of wine per year. The estate has a variety of wines on offer, ranging from their Merlot, a wine of black cherries, mulberries and spicy flavours, to a Sauvignon Blanc which consists of flavours of asparagus, green peppers and gooseberries.

Winchester Mansions’ French executive chef, Christophe Borderie, will entice the guests with an exclusively designed five course meal to complement the wines. The dishes are a combination of the chef’s French and Mediterranean heritage complemented by local flavours and ingredients. The dishes are also designed to challenge the opinion and pallet of food and wine connoisseurs.

The original Cape Dutch architecture of Winchester Mansions combined with personalised hospitality and professional service form the hotel’s unique signature of classic elegance and completes the setting for the Grapes, Gourmet and Gallery Evening. During the course of the evening guests can marvel at the photography exhibition “Goalgetting – the world is a football ground”. The first of its kind, this unique exhibition comprises a collection of photographs of football grounds across the globe. Goalgetting is an online platform that started in 2009. Student company Coaching Zone, based in Germany was founded with the goal of creating a platform for people from all over the world to upload and share pictures of their football fields. “It portrays the reality of football in different countries and cities and it’s a must-see for all. I invite all football fanatics to come and view the exhibition and show your support for this worthy project. We are proud to be associated with Goalgetting and are honoured to be the first venue in the global tour,” says Nils Heckscher, Managing Director of Winchester Mansions.

The evening is completed with a scrumptious dessert and an auction of gifts donated by Morgenhof Estate. All funds raised through the auction will be donated to StreetSmart South Africa, a conduit fundraising initiative that contributes directly towards enabling street children to live a viable life in society.

Guests are invited from 7pm and dinner is served at 7:30pm. At the same rate as 2009, it is true value for money at R345.00 per person.

The 2010 line up of the Grapes, Gourmet and Gallery Evenings, which are always hosted by the winemaker of the various estates, are as follows:
